Another UAL is possible: Start a campaign with the support of the Union

Arts SU is supporting students to run campaigns that build a more inclusive, equitable and democratic university.

UAL students have a long and rich history of organising creative and effective student campaigns against unpaid internships, th outsourcing of cleaning staff, course closures and unethical investments.

We know UAL students can run effective campaigns, but we believe when the Union gets behind those campaigns, we can make bigger and bolder demands, and win!

Why start a campaign?

At Arts SU we are clear that the many challenges facing students today—including financial hardship, poor housing, career insecurity and lack of mental health support—are not inevitable but the result of government decisions and the increasingly profit-oriented nature of UK universities.

We believe students have power and agency as well as the creative and radical energy necessary to change the conditions of this university, and even the world.

Arts SU wants to support students to run student-led campaigns that win concrete and material changes that will improve your lives while also allowing you to develop the knowledge and skills to be able organise powerful collective action at university and beyond.

Ratified campaigns will have access to:

  • Funding for your campaign as well as access to comms support, spaces and AV equipment.

  • Training for members of your campaign on campaign strategy, tactics, power mapping, protest rights and UAL's power structure.

  • SU Staff Support: Arts SU has a full-time member of stall whose role involves supporting students with campaigns.

  • Access: By working with SU staff, you will have opportunities to meet and work with elected Sabbatical Officers, many of whom sit on important UAL Committees and Boards.
