About Decolonising Fashion

About Us

This society is a safe-space to actively apply methods in ‘decolonising’ fashion practices.
We recognise ‘decolonisation’ is a contested term, so with this society we aim to question how fashion, and our study of fashion can become more of an inclusive space both socially and academically.
As a group, we are collaborative in applying decolonisation practices to the fashion industry, bringing awareness, and building communities in the field.

Planned Events/Activities

  • Guest speakers to come into the university
  • Have craft specialists with no formal fashion education teach their methods of making
  • Group museum and gallery tours
  • Create visual and academic work to exhibit
  • Work with local community groups and charities to extend the university’s privileges
