Sound System Cloud is an exploration of public spaces and their role in strengthening communities. It was created as part of the Sound Systems project from MAID 1, which focuses on designing rituals and artifacts within a fictional narrative.
In this imagined world, unsustainable agricultural practices have turned a once-green region into a barren, desert-like basin. Daily sandstorms sweep through the land, carrying toxins and obscuring the sun. In response, the inhabitants have built greenhouses - not only as sources of food and water but also as sanctuaries providing shelter. As residents approach the greenhouse, they step into a transformed world.
Beyond their practical function, these greenhouses have become powerful symbols of resilience and hope. They shield residents from the harsh environment, replacing the relentless noise of the desert with an ambient soundscape controlled by the Sound System Clouds. Beneath these clouds, even the smallest movement shifts the environmental sounds. Residents actively shape their surroundings through their daily activities. This dynamic brings the greenhouse to life, fostering a sense of connection and ownership over the shared space.
The installation features interactive lights that invite the visitors to alter the lighting and soundscape, creating a calming, meditative atmosphere. Acting as a beacon of hope, Sound System Cloud unites people in their shared vision of renewal and regeneration.
