Artist Bio

Joke Amusan is a German-Nigerian textile artist. Her art practice highlights the experiences and complex beauty of what it means to be a Black woman – through the exploration of identity, migration, and heritage. Joke’s art pieces are conversational, encouraging women to come together to share their stories and to embrace who they are unapologetically. In 2022 she was nominated for the “Female Founder” award in The Independent Awards. In 2023 she was a finalist in the Ingram Prize. Joke strives to help build community by bringing people together and sharing space together through her creative workshops. To create a safe place where we uplift and empower each other. Where stories can be shared and creative juices can freely flow.
