We condemn the atrocious far right violent riots that have taken place the past week.  We do not condone any acts of racism, Islamophobia and Xenophobia. We stand in solidarity with our student community during this time.

We understand that particularly our Muslim, global majority and international students who represent a large body of UAL, will feel deeply troubled and affected by the current events and want to assure them that we stand by you.

There is a deeply troubling rise of racism that is taking place across Britain, which has no place within our society. We must work together as a community to fight against this discrimination in the country and hold each other accountable to challenge injustices that take place.

We call upon UAL to reaffirm their stance on the ongoing riots and ensure commitment to being an anti-racist institution. With the Welcome period upcoming, we would like to ensure that students of all communities feel safe and welcomed.

We look forward to collaborating with UAL to continue supporting marginalised students.

If you are personally affected by the events that have taken place and wish to seek support:

Contact the Dean of Students, Mark Crawley, at m.crawley@arts.ac.uk.
