Hear from Katwamba Mutale, your LCF Officer, about what he's been up to this term!
Hello there, this is Katwamba bringing you the first LCF Officer Update of the academic year, letting you know what I’ve been up to! It has been a busy academic year so far...
What I’ve been doing
Welcome Fair
In September, we welcomed you all at our Welcome Fair, the largest yet, with over 4,000 of you attending - an Arts SU record! It was a pleasure to meet some of you and answer any questions you have about LCF’S East Bank Campus!
Black History Month
Last month, led by Student Communities Officer Alyshia Jack, I supported Black History Month alongside Daniela Commey, Union Affairs Officer. Our theme for this year was The Art of Community, where we held an enriching round of events, including the Paint Jam, Nature Walk with Flock Together and Black History Month Celebration. We also had a walk-through of the CSM exhibition with UAL Vice-Chancellor James Purnell. Explore the events through photos!
Student Community and Building Feedback at East Bank
I have been working closely with the Head of College, Andrew Teverson, on building the student community at East Bank. I'm happy to announce that moving forward, Arts SU will be holding events at the East Bank campus, along with your sports clubs and societies. This started with a Skincare talk, hosted by Ti'onne Debnam and African Caribbean Society (ACS), back in October. You can expect to see many more events in the coming terms!
I have also been working with several LCF staff on having a student notice board that will be launched at the start of next term and will soon be part of the student committee for events.
Lastly, I have been voicing your concerns and feedback regarding building feedback and closing the feedback loop to let you know what’s happening. You also find frequent updates to frequently asked building feedback via Building Feedback: Status Updates on Moodle.
What I am currently working on!
Disability History Month
Led by LCC Officer Sophia Nasif-Whitesone with support by Communities Officer and myself. This year’s theme is Taking Our Time: Finding Creative Peace; we have a range of events throughout the month, along with more details about the exhibition and our full programme, that you can check out here!
LGBTQIA+ History Month
Minna Ellis, CSM Officer, and I will lead next year’s LGBT+ History Month. Stay tuned very soon, as we will have exciting news to share!
World AIDS Day
Lastly, this World AIDS Day (1st December), together with Campaigns and Student Voice Coordinator Shane Simpkin I will be working on spreading awareness and ways you can show support; stay tuned.
Thank you for reading, see you at the next update!
